Haematology and Blood Transfusion service
Yaounde University Teaching Hospital (Cameroon), Cameroon
My name is Dr Ndoumba Nkengue Annick Epse Mintya and I am a medical biologist. I have been working in the haematology and blood transfusion department of the Yaounde University Teaching Hospital in Cameroon for 13 years. At the same time, I am one of the doctors in charge of the Hemophilia Treatment Centre in Cameroon, where I take care of hemophilia patients on a daily basis. I also teach haematology at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Yaounde I and at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Ebolowa in the south of the country.
My areas of interest are transfusion safety and hemostasis, in particular the management of patients suffering from congenital coagulation disorders such as haemophilia and von Willebrand disease. Over the last 13 years, I have carried out a number of research projects in this field, demonstrating the difficulties of managing hemophilia in our context. I continue to advocate at local level for the management of hemophilia to become a priority and thus improve the knowledge and skills of healthcare staff in this field.
