Eric Y. Chang is a Staff Physician at the VA San Diego Healthcare System and Professor of Radiology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center. He completed his undergraduate and medical studies at Cornell University and New York University School of Medicine, respectively. He completed his residency and musculoskeletal radiology fellowship at UCSD, where he was also Chief Resident. He is an active member of numerous societies, including the American College of Radiology where he served as the past Specialty Chair of the Appropriateness Criteria Musculoskeletal Imaging section. He currently serves as the Musculoskeletal Section Editor for the American Journal of Roentgenology.
Dr. Chang’s research lab focuses on the development, optimization, and translation of imaging techniques to assess the microstructure, composition, and chemical environment of neuromusculoskeletal tissues, particularly using MRI and US. He was bestowed the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) award in 2017, which is the highest honor given by the US Government to science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers. In 2023 he was awarded the President's Medal by the International Skeletal Society for outstanding scientific achievements on an international level. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications to date.
