Maya Bloomberg is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Jackson Memorial Hospital. She earned both her Bachelors and Masters of Science in nursing degrees from University of Miami. She has worked as a Hematology Nurse Practitioner for over 10 years, specializing in sickle cell disease and congenital bleeding disorders, which shed light on the significant health and racial disparities that exist in modern medicine. This led to the creation of a social media page @theHemeNP devoted to providing reliable, easy to understand information to empower patients and bridge health disparities. She serves on the board of the SCDAA Miami-Dade chapter, is co-host of the “Lets Talk About Sickle Cell” podcast, and has a monthly segment on The Bloodstream Podcast, an informational podcast for the bleeding disorder community. She is actively involved in research and had two manuscripts published on the topic of home infusion of factor replacement and prescribing practices among HTC providers. She is starting a non-profit, the HEM (Health Equity Matters) Foundation, Inc., in order to maximize her impact in empowering patients to bridge health disparities.
