Dr Ian Jennings has worked within the NHS for over 40 years as a Biomedical Scientist and then Clinical Scientist, first at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, from 1983 until 1993, and then with UK National External Quality Assessment Scheme (UK NEQAS) for Blood Coagulation in Sheffield. His role involves managing international external quality control programmes and advising laboratories in all aspects of haemostasis. He is currently Manager and Deputy Director of the UK NEQAS Blood Coagulation organisation, and World Federation of Haemophilia IEQAS programme.
He currently sits on a number of committees including:; World Federation of Haemophilia International Quality Assessment Programme Steering Committee; ISTH Scientific and Standardisation Committee Working Group on Coagulation Standards; EQATH (chair); British Society for Haematology Haemostasis and Thrombosis Task Force; Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS) Scientific Advisory Panel. He is also Chief Examiner in Haematology for the IBMS, and has advised on the NHS Modernising Scientific Careers programme and NICE medical technology advisory committees. He has authored and co-authored over 75 articles published in peer reviewed journals, including national guidelines on several topics including Point of Care Testing, acquired inhibitors of coagulation, investigation of platelet disorders and guidance on haemostasis laboratory assays.
