I am Dr Tulasi Geevar, MD Pathology, Associate Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology, Christian Medical College, Vellore (India). I am currently on study leave doing a fellowship at Univeristy Health Network, Toronto.
I am a member of the Laboratory Scientific committee of World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) and Indian Association of Haemophilia and Allied Disorder (IAHAD). I have been a trainer/resource person in CMEs and coagulation workshops, including workshops done in collaboration with WFH, AHAD-AP and IAHAD.
I have a keen interest in the area of hemostasis, which both intrigues and fascinates me !
It is thought that approximately 75% of people around the world with bleeding disorder still receive inadequate treatment or have no access to diagnosis. Acquired bleeding conditions like trauma and post-partum haemorrhage still continue to be a major problem in India. I believe that to address these problems it is essential to train and educate laboratory personnel and doctors involved in the area of hemostasis. Also there is an imminent need to improve the laboratory infrastructure and improvise cost effective strategies.
Being in a tertiary care hospital at CMC, Vellore well equipped with good laboratory infrastructure, large sample volume and expert leadership, I want to make efforts to bridge this gap through training, education and empowerment.
