BJ was born in Scotland and is a duel New Zealand citizen. Making him a bona-fide Sc-iwi. He is the Haemophilia Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Wellington Region of New Zealand. He has worked as a haemophilia Nurse specialist for over 23 years. First in the Kent Haemophilia Centre, Canterbury, England. Then in Wellington since 2008, when he and his family moved to, and fell in love with New Zealand.
BJ has a particular interest in the psychosocial aspects of care in haemophilia, the impact it has on people with haemophilia and their families. He is also fascinated by the role of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in haemophilia care and loves to learn from the various specialities he interacts with. He is keen to enlarge the MDT that regularly interacts with haemophilia patients and to improve relationships and communication between them and the haemophilia core team. Seeking to promote a holistic care environment and a more seamless and co-ordinated network of haemophilia management to our patient group.
BJ is a past chair of the New Zealand Haemophilia Treaters Group, the first nurse to hold this role.
He is a current member of the WFH Nurses Committee and the ISTH Nursing Committee.
